Shypt Assisted Shopping: Buy Anything and Ship to Uganda
Some stores block Ugandan cards or refuse international checkout entirely. Shypt Assisted Shopping solves that: you send the product links and your budget, we buy on your behalf, receive the goods, consolidate them, and forward everything to Kampala. Here is exactly how it works and when to use it.
By Shypt Editorial
If a store refuses your Ugandan card, will not accept a foreign shipping address, or you would simply rather someone else handle the purchase, Shypt Assisted Shopping is the answer. You send us the product links, sizes and your budget; we buy the items on your behalf, receive them at our warehouse, consolidate them and forward everything to Kampala, emailing you at every milestone. This guide explains exactly how it works, what it costs, and when to choose it over standard freight forwarding.
Shypt's two services, side by side
Shypt offers two ways to get goods from abroad into your hands, and picking the right one saves time and money.
| Freight Forwarding | Assisted Shopping | |
|---|---|---|
| Who buys the goods | You do | Shypt does, on your behalf |
| You need a working card | Yes | No |
| Store accepts your checkout | Required | Not required |
| Best for | Orders you can place yourself | Stores that block you |
| What you send us | The parcel, to your warehouse address | Product links, sizes and budget |
| Consolidation and forwarding | Included | Included |
With Freight Forwarding, you shop yourself and ship to your Shypt warehouse address. With Assisted Shopping, Shypt becomes your buyer, which removes every checkout barrier at once.
When Assisted Shopping is the right choice
Reach for Assisted Shopping when any of these is true:
- The store rejects Ugandan or international cards. Many US and European retailers decline foreign payment methods outright.
- The store will not ship to a forwarding address or flags it at checkout.
- The platform is hard to use from Uganda, such as 1688, which is Chinese-language and expects a domestic Chinese payment account.
- You want to buy from multiple stores at once and have one team coordinate and consolidate everything.
- You are sourcing for a business and want an experienced buyer to negotiate and vet suppliers, as covered in our guide to importing from China.
- You simply prefer convenience and would rather hand the whole task to Shypt.
How Assisted Shopping works, step by step
- Create your free client ID. Register to get your unique 5-digit client ID and warehouse addresses. This is how every parcel and purchase is matched to you.
- Send us your shopping list. Share the product links from any supported store, with sizes, colours, quantities and your budget.
- We quote and you approve. Shypt confirms the item cost and service, and flags anything that is prohibited or restricted so you never pay for something that cannot ship.
- You pay by mobile money or bank deposit. This covers the goods and the service.
- We buy on your behalf. Shypt places the orders using the store's own checkout and payment, so there is no card barrier for you.
- Goods arrive and we consolidate. Your purchases land at the relevant warehouse, we combine them into one parcel, and we prepare them for freight.
- We forward to Kampala. Freight is billed separately in the origin warehouse currency, by air or sea. You are emailed at every milestone and can track anytime.
What it costs
Your total is built from a few clear parts:
| Cost component | Notes |
|---|---|
| Item price | What the store charges for the goods |
| Assisted Shopping service | Shypt's fee for buying on your behalf |
| International freight | Billed in the origin warehouse currency, by air or sea |
| Import duty and VAT | Assessed by the URA on the customs value |
| Payment method | Mobile money or bank deposit |
Freight follows the same rules as any Shypt shipment: air freight is billed by the higher of actual or volumetric weight, so light but bulky goods are charged on their size. To keep this down, we consolidate multiple purchases into one parcel wherever possible, the same saving explained in our package consolidation guide.
A quick worked example
Suppose a US store you cannot check out with sells a jacket and a pair of shoes you want, together around 130 USD. You send Shypt the two links, your sizes and budget. We confirm the cost, you pay by mobile money, and we buy both items to your US warehouse address. They arrive, we consolidate them into one box weighing roughly 2.5 kg, and forward by air. You pay the item cost and service up front, and freight in US dollars once the parcel is ready, with duty and VAT settled at clearance.
Tips for a smooth Assisted Shopping order
- Be specific about variants. Wrong size or colour is the main cause of avoidable re-buys.
- Group your requests. Sending several items at once lets us consolidate and cut freight.
- Set a realistic budget including a little headroom for price changes and shipping to the warehouse.
- Check restrictions first. Batteries, liquids and regulated goods have limits; see the prohibited and restricted items guide.
- Keep your email handy. Since you never log into a dashboard, our milestone emails are your live status updates.
Why clients like buying through Shypt
Assisted Shopping removes the two things that stop most Ugandans from buying abroad: payment barriers and address restrictions. You get access to the same global catalogue as anyone in New York, London or Guangzhou, with a local team handling the purchase, consolidation and freight, and a clear email trail from order to delivery. Whether it is a single item you cannot check out or a full business order from multiple suppliers, the process is the same and the goods end up in Kampala.
